When Dogs Fly
And happy Father's Day!
“Find the good and praise it.”
Hello again!
I hope you’re having a great week so far! 😀
I want to thank all those who signed up to be notified of my Kickstarter campaign for my upcoming novel, The View from the Cliffs, to be released this fall.
There will be limited-edition items (like first-edition, signed print copies) that will be available only through the Kickstarter at first, and may sell out, so I want to be sure all my Positive Vibes members are notified first, and registering through Kickstarter is the best way to do that. (Sometimes items sell out within the first hour of a campaign going live.)
However, I also know that you may be new to Kickstarter—I certainly was! So, if you’re having any trouble with the Kickstarter site, please let me know. Just reply to this email or to the quick poll below:
Are you having trouble signing up for the Kickstarter for my novel? |
Remember that I’m here to help in whatever way I can! And don’t worry—I won’t be harping on this in every single issue of this newsletter; I just want to be sure you have what you need to get started. 😉
Cheers and best wishes for a wonderful Father’s Day weekend!
Yasmine

What I’m Feeling Good About
A year ago, we held a very successful fundraiser for the Waverly Train Museum and commemoration of the 45th anniversary of the Waverly Train Disaster.
Signing event posters with Mr. Toad Smith, who is a major “character” in my book, Walk through Fire: The Train Disaster that Changed America |
If you missed that event and would like to see the recording—where you’ll get to hear from many of the people who are in the book—or if you just want to watch it again, you can find it here (with thanks to Michael Hewitt for doing the video!):
In other personal news, you know how much I enjoy gardening (I’m not the best, but it’s fun!), and am delighted that my cherry tomatoes are now coming in:
Do you enjoy gardening? Do you do any vegetable gardening? Hit “reply” to this message and let me know!
What You’re Feeling Good About
It’s been wonderful seeing Positive Vibes members getting out and about this summer!
Last weekend, at the farmers market in Ashland City, TN, I ran into Positive Vibes member Anissa Parker, who graduated high school with me in Waverly and now runs Bloomin’ Ivy flower farm:
The beautiful bouquet I was lucky enough to get! See the gorgeous dahlia in the center?
Do you have a favorite local, independent flower vendor, farm, or shop? Let me know, and I’ll see if I can feature them in an issue of Positive Vibes!
Another Positive Vibes member, Dylan, wrote in with this good news: “I recently had the most amazing trip to Atlanta to see the pre-Broadway musical, ‘The Preacher’s Wife.’ Let me tell you, it was an unforgettable experience! The show starred Amber Riley and Loretta Divine, both phenomenal on stage. Their performances were so powerful and moving—it felt like they were pouring their hearts out with every note and every line. I was completely captivated from start to finish.”
Dylan had the chance to meet both performers in person, backstage after the show, which was a “dream come true”! Here he is with Loretta Divine:
(This section is where I’ll be featuring good news, tips, and bits of wisdom from readers—so please reply to this email and share some with me! It can be anything, big or small. Whatever you’re feeling good about.)

If you have $8,000 to spare … 😂
And the Belmont Stakes was run last Saturday. In keeping with our Secretariat theme this Triple Crown season, here’s that famous image of Secretariat winning the Belmont by 31 lengths (nearly the length of a football field), shattering every possible record. This is one of my favorite sports photos of all time! And, contrary to popular belief, what his jockey, Ron Turcotte, is looking at in this photo is not how far behind the other horses are, but at the track timer, to see how much of a record Secretariat had set:
Here’s the actual footage—with the incredibly thrilling sports call from that race, by announcer Chic Anderson:
“Secretariat’s run in the Belmont is so legendary the racetrack has a pole inside the rail—in his signature blue-and-white checkered silks—marking where the next-closest horse was when he crossed the finish line”:
And happy Father’s Day!

Do you talk to your dogs? I know I do! And if you say that you know they can understand you, you may be right:
