An Attitude of Gratitude

And the train museum gets a facelift!

Hello again!

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I try to have an “attitude of gratitude” throughout the year, but Thanksgiving is always a time to reflect further on all that we have in our lives for which we can be grateful. It is good for our hearts, literally and figuratively! So, you’ll find that this newsletter has a theme of gratitude running through it.

One of the blessings for which I am most grateful is YOUR support, and to show my gratitude, I will be doing a random drawing and reader giveaway in mid-December! Anyone who is subscribed to this newsletter by Dec. 10 will be eligible to win one of 3 prizes, drawn at random!

The giveaway prizes are: a signed, hardcover copy of Walk through Fire: The Train Disaster that Changed America; a calendar (either the “Fabulous First Lines” calendar or the “12 Months of Christmas” calendar—winner’s choice); and a $25 bookstore gift certificate (bookseller still TBD).

Reading Recommendation

In keeping with this newsletter’s theme of gratitude, this month’s recommendation is a lovely book by M.J. Ryan (who is also the author of The Power of Patience and The Happiness Makeover, both of which I highly recommend as well):

Train Museum Update

Yet another reason to be grateful! Thanks to the successful Waverly Train Museum Fundraiser—to which so many of you generously donated this past spring and summer—work is well underway to restore the museum’s exterior. Thank you to Patti Hoehn Damesworth for these photos from Waverly!

In the background, you can see the Hwy 13 viaduct (overpass), known in Waverly as the “vaya-dock,” as featured in Walk through Fire!

The train museum caboose is being restored to a brilliant red.

Lettering and signage will come next. I’ll let you know when it’s complete!

Update on The View from the Cliffs

I am continuing to work on my next book, The View from the Cliffs, which is the novel I’ve been telling you about in prior newsletters. Work slowed down in November because of the 2024 calendar project, but my goal for December is to pick right back up again with my editing and revision every night!

So stay tuned … ;)

And speaking of calendars, there are still 2024 calendars available at regular price (unsigned):

And the “Fabulous First Lines” Calendar, with a special surprise for February 2024!

Quote of the Month

“I wanted you to see what real courage is … It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do.”
